Irreversible Entanglements’ third full-length album, 2021’s ‘Open The Gates’, reverberates as fresh and exciting now as it did back then. Fittingly, the free jazz collective met amidst an event protesting police brutality; their last record sees them continue to demand liberation through a melancholic exploration of the post-colonial debris surrounding us all. Their palette is expanded, and, yet, the brush strokes render the same pictures, only broader this time around, as they burgeon the rage felt since their 2017 self-titled debut LP.
