145: The Soul Savants

On May 9th 2018, 145 presents a new kind of sound, a new kind of vision, a new kind of listen.

So Listen In!
And Boogie Out!

The Soul Savants, are a quintet formed in Brooklyn created by the late, great Jerome Dillinja. Influenced by the otherworldly sounds of free jazz, bollywood, and shamanic soul, their latin roots cut deep providing a new kind of salsa to go with your pink tacos.

Drums: Tcheser Holmes
Brooklyn born and bred free jazz drummer, part of the Irreversible Entanglements whose album was listed as Gilles Peterson's favourite jazz records of 2018. Tcheser, grew up submerged in Brooklyn's "Afro-centric" culture. Here he was introduced to an abundance of music (Rock, House, Hip-Hop etc). At an early age Tcheser played djembe with African Drum ensembles; this is where he was introduced to the drum-set and concepts pertaining to jazz.

Bass: Scott Kapelman
Scott, a bassist from the Bronx grew up with a diverse range of influences from Sly Stone, to Jaco Pastorious. His modern fusion of new and old is something to behold.

Trumpet: Aquilles Navarro
Also a part of the Irreversible Entanglements, Aquiles is a Panamanian trumpeter whose Grandfather was an accomplished cellist. Following in his foot steps, Aquiles always felt connected to music as expression. Growing up listening to his fathers music collection, his sound reflects the Panamanian culture of folkloric music, salsa and reggae. He was exposed to jazz in his late teens.

Guitar: Jeremiah Illingsworth
Jeremiah runs famed record label The Jazz Diaries with Jitwam. in Brooklyn, NYC. Releasing a diverse range of sounds from broken beat, to hip hop, and a fan base that includes Moodymann and Danger Mouse amongst others, this is the first time Jeremiah steps out from behind smokey studios and mixing desks into the live arena.
